KSAM: Learn how your clients can benefit from Prepaid Debit Card Benefit Programs

Are your clients receiving all the benefits they’re eligible for? Are you aware of the pre-paid debit cards some Medicare Advantage carriers are offering in 2023?

Prepaid debit card programs are used for out-of-pocket healthcare costs. They vary by plan, state, county, individual eligibility, dollar amount, and services provided. It can be confusing for individuals who may be eligible for these benefit cards and aren’t aware they exist, but it can be an incredible savings tool for Medicare Advantage recipients and those on Special Needs plans (SNP).

Depending on the benefit card programs that are available in certain states and zip codes, some individuals may qualify for prepaid debit cards that are loaded with money each month ranging from $50-$500. That’s $600-$6,000 a year! Depending on the card program, those funds may be applied to a variety of benefits, including dental, vision, and hearing services, as well as the purchase of food, home supplies, and over-the-counter products and medications. Believe it or not, some cards may also be used for non-medical transportation, general living support (rent assistance, utility bills, and internet), assistive devices, social needs services, pest control, and even pet supplies.

You could make a big difference in helping your clients with their month-to-month expenses simply by checking a carrier’s prepaid debit card availability, its requirements, and client eligibility in the territory/areas you manage. Imagine being able to tell your clients they’re eligible for this allowance each and every month!

Make sure you review your carrier’s 2023 Medicare Advantage plans summary of benefits for your clients to see whether the zip code they reside in may have such prepaid benefit card programs available to them.
